Coochbehar :
Coochbehar is reminiscent of the Koch maharajas who had regined over the
sovereign state for more than 400 years. Even Bhutan came under their
rule for some time. The sovereign state became a district of independent
India in 1949.
The Coochbehar Palace stands vast and rediant with unique architecture,
grandeur and beauty. Undertaken and being developed by the
Archaeological Survey of India as a museum, this landmark of Coochbehar
attracts a large number of tourist. The Palace is illuminated on
Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 7 p.m. The Palace Museum remains
closed on Friday. Visiting hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Madanmohan Temple, which is home to the
hereditary deity of the maharajas as well as the subject. The
traditional Rass Jatra festival held since long back is one of the
biggest in North Bengal.
Sagardighi, the newly decorated beautiful tank attracting
migratory birds and tourists in all seasons.
Gosanimari Temple, near Dinhata, built in the 17th century by
then Koch Maharaja but reminiscent of khyen dynasty.
Rasik Bil, a huge water body in Tufanjung sub-division, providing
home to a large variety of resident and migratory birds.
Baneswar Temple, on way to Alipurduar
from Coochbehar, particularly famous for the rare giant turtles,
protected by the local people with love and religious faith.

There are regular rail and bus services
from Kolkata to every corner of the district.
