- Registered in June 1999, the West Bengal State Academy of Adventure Sports has it office
at 32/1, Benoy-Badal-Dinesh Bag (South), Kolkata 700 001 from where the Youth
Services Wing of the State Department of Sports & Youth Services function. The Academy
has started function in close collaboration with Tourism Department, Govt. Of West Bengal
and Sports Authority of India (Eastern India).
- Chief Minister, West Bengal is the President of the Academy while the Minister for Youth
Services, Tourism & Environment is the Working President . The Governing Body consists
of the following
- Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism & Sports
- Principal Secretary, Department of Youth Services.
- Special Secretary, Department of Youth Services.
- Joint Secretary, Department of Youth Services.
- OSD Ex-Off. Dy. Secretary, Department of Youth Services.
- Principal, West Bengal State Academy of Adventure Sports-Member Secretary.
- The objectives of the Academy are to encourage, support, promote and execute schemes for
the Youth for
- Mountaineering (ice, rool and snow)
- Cycling, cave exploration, nature study and adventure camps
- Skiing
- Aero-sports (para-gliding, hang-gliding, para-sailing),
- Coastal trek
- Desert trek,
- Water-sports (wind surfing, kayaking, canoeing, river rafting, scubadiving, sea
awareness, sea exploration).
- Exposure to wilderness
- Survival course
- Obstacle course
- Cross country
- Rescue operation course
- Scientific exploration
- Method of instruction course
- Mountaineering expeditions on peaks above 20,000 ft.
- The Academy has plans to set up two centres the main centre at Shubhas Sarobar,
Kolkata and the other at Kalijhore, 27 km from Siliguri. The Academy is in the process of
acquiring all types of adventure gear with help from the State Government.
