Inviting Expression of Interest for
Renovation and Management of
Great Eastern Hotel at Kolkata
The Great Eastern Hotel stands on approximately 9235 square meters
of land with a built up area of 32850 square meters. It has been in operation continuously
since 1840.
The Hotel is located at 18, Hemanta Bose Sarani, one of the prime
locations in the central business district of Kolkata.
The Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal proposes to
renovate, upgrade and manage this hotel through private entrepreneurs in order to make it
commercially viable as a Heritage Hotel. It therefore invites Expression of Interest from
entrepreneurs having proven track record in Hotel Management and expertise in this sphere
for managing the property on a long term basis.
The interested Entrepreneurs / Companies may submit their expression of
interest to Director of Tourism, Government of West Bengal at the address given below
within three weeks of this publication with the following details :
- Name of Interested Party(ies)
- Whether public company / private company / partnership firm etc : (if applying as
consortium, this information to be given for each member of consortium)
- Role of each member in consortium (if applicable)
- Organisational profile including brief description of businesses and operations
- Relevant experience including names of hotels, whether owned or managed, star
classification, number of rooms and location
- Three years audited accounts
- Contact Person with designation, address, phone and fax number
In case of a consortium, information iv) to vi) is to be given for each
member of the consortium along with written communication from each member confirming
their participation in the consortium.
Those short listed would be provided Information Memorandum containing
detailed information and particulars to enable them to evaluate the opportunity against
payment of non-refundable amount of Rs. 2 lakhs. Shortlisted parties will need to submit
bids containing the following information :
- Scheme for renovation and upgradation of the Hotel which will retain the heritage
character of the Hotel and would be in accordance with the regulations and by-laws of all
concerned statutory authorities
- Proposed investment plan and Means of financing
- Projected Business Plan for next 10 years
- Proposed management pattern to be adopted including plan to protect the interest of
existing employees of the hotel
- Time frame for different stages of development and target date by which the renovated /
upgraded Hotel will be fully operational
- Consideration amount to be paid to Government of West Bengal
Other terms / information required will be mentioned in the information
memorandum.
Government of West Bengal reserves the right to accept or reject any or
all offers received, or to terminate the entire process at any stage without assigning any
reason and without paying any compensation.
